Good to know

When a deadline falls on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, it usually moves to the next working day. Always check on the Portal das Finanças (tax portal) or Segurança Social Direta (social security portal).

IMI (council tax) is paid in one, two or three instalments depending on the amount: up to €100 in May; €100 to €500 in May and November; over €500 in May, August and November.

If a deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, it moves to the next working day. From 2027, IUC is no longer paid in the month of registration (Decree-Law 161/2026); the limits count the total for all your vehicles.
